NIDCR Funding: '09 & '10

Congress Passes FY09 Appropriations Bill;
NIH, NIDCR to Receive Increases

Congress passed the FY09 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, H.R.1105, meaning NIH can expect to be funded at $30.3 billion, which is a $938 million increase from FY08. According to a House Committee on Appropriations summary, the increased funding will allow almost 10,600 new research grants. President Barack Obama will sign it into law before the existing Continuing Resolution expires on March 11.

NIDCR to Receive $12.55 Million Increase
The bill provides NIDCR with $402,652,000, which is an increase of $12.55 million from FY08.

The FY09 funding is separate from what NIH and NIDCR will receive in stimulus aid from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  FNIDCR is proud to have lent its voice in helping NIH secure $10 billion, and NIDCR $100 million, in stimulus aid.

FY10: Increases Are Anticipated
It is anticipated that medical research will receive increases in President Obama’s FY10 budget outline, which will build on the $10 billion in stimulus aid (to be appropriated over FY09 – FY10), and expected FY09 appropriations increase. For example, according to the President’s FY10 budget outline, $6 billion will be invested in cancer research at NIH.
