Legislative Update

NIDCR 2010 Funding Increases by $10.5 Million & NIH to Receive $31 Billion

FY10 Omnibus Appropriations Bill Passes
Last night (December 16), President Barack Obama signed into law the FY10 Consolidated Appropriations Bill, H.R.3288, meaning NIH can expect to be funded at $31 billion, which is a $691.8 million (2.3 percent) increase from FY09. The appropriated amount of $31 billion is also $250 million above the president’s request.

NIDCR Will Receive $10.58 Million Increase
The bill provides NIDCR with $413,236,000, which is an increase of $10.58 million from FY09. This is a welcomed increase; however, it is below the funding level recommended of $442 million by FNIDCR.

In addition, according to a joint Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Appropriations summary, the bill includes:
Dental Care and Training: $66 million, $15 million above 2009, for programs that provide critical dental care and train dental care workers, including a $7.5 million or 75 percent, increase for State Dental Health Grants, in order to expand dental care access to the more than 100 million Americans who do not have dental insurance – more than twice as many as those without health insurance.

FNIDCR voiced its position on FY10 funding for NIDCR, and recommended the Institute receives $442 million. READ WHY below:
