Key Initiatives
Building Partnerships
The Friends reach out to a broad array of partners--from patient advocacy organizations
to research groups to dental schools to industry--who care about improving oral,
dental and craniofacial research.
Educating
A primary role of the Friends is educating the public and health professionals
about the advances from the investments in dental, oral and craniofacial health
research. The Friends sponsor meetings and activities to communicate scientific
breakthroughs, promote health and science transfer, and foster improved policy
development.
Informing
It is essential that Congress, the Administration, and the public understand
the value of the Institute and its research portfolio. The Friends provide
expert testimony and support forums on the importance of adequate public
support for the Institute.
Celebrating the Past, Envisioning the Future
The Friends sponsor historical activities associated with research investment
by the Institue, such as exhibitions and special events. We also facilitate
communication with its various constituencies as the Institute engages in
strategic planning for the future.
Honoring Excellence
Each year the Friends honor distinguished leaders related to the Institute's
mission. The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to public officials
dedicated to fostering health through oral and craniofacial research, the
Public Advocacy Award is presented to an individual who has helped foster
improved healthcare for patients and health consumers, and the Media Award
of Excellence is given to a journalist who demonstrates distinction in
reporting on craniofacial, oral and dental health research or health information. |
